The English Defence League's LGBT Division have announced plans to target Manchester's Gay Village on the 23rd July. In a homophobic tinged statement, this event appeared on Facebook.
wE WILL BE MEETING AT PICCADILY AND MAKING OUR WAY TO ANAL TREET FOR SOME LEAFLETING AND WELL TRY ARRANGE A FLASH AT SOMEPOINT ASWELL. THE GAY UPRISING STARTS HERE WE WILL NOT STAND FOR MUSLIM HOMOPHOBIA NO MORE
The LGBT Division has recently been taken over by Liam Wood who is also Regional Officer of the Blackpool Division. Wood is a drugs dealer, convicted on the 2nd February 2011. He was sentenced to prison, suspended for 6 months. Wood is still in his position within the organisation despite the EDL's alledged stand against Muslim drug dealers. It is alledged he has been banned indefinately from entering Blackpool's gay clubs for his incessant drug dealing activities.
THE EDL LGBT Division are set to meet resistance from the Village's gay community and a counter Facebook Event has been organised by a coalition of local people thought to include Queer Resistance, Manchester Anti-fascist Alliance, the Muslim Defence League and other allies .Statement by Manchester Anti-Fascist Alliance - Click here - Opens in new window.
The following statement has appeared on the EDl's LGBT Facebook page.
Despite this having been set up weeks ago, Liam still has not managed to organise anything and facing fierce opposition by both gays and muslims alike, he has decided to surrender (disguising it as not wanting to get arrested for violence against other gays).
Another factor may also be down to the LGBT Division having very few gay members and zero transexuals and he has been unable to get the numbers.
